homemade CD chandelier

to start off, this project wasn't something i just did, as it has been hanging in my office for almost 2 years, but it was a DIY project none the less!

i work with ALL guys (i know...horrible (some days)) so there isnt an overabundance of estrogen, but i was determined to make my office my girly space.  we happened to be getting rid of a bunch mini CD's at work and instead of throwing them away, i decided to take them home to see if i could figure out a way to use them.  i googled DIY projects using CD's and i came across this gorgeous chadelier that someone made out of them, it definitely captured my attention.

i purchased a gold hoop from michaels for $.99, as well as some fake bulk crystals for $2.99.  i also used mono-filament cord that i already had (can be purchased for $1.99 though)

i started by tying the mono-filament across the hoop.  i divided the hoop into 12 different sections.
and then tied mono-filament from 3-4 different places on each of the 12 sections.
i then took strands of mono-filament string and tied one end to one of the mini CD's, then strung some of the"crystals" onto the string.
i did this process 35-40 times with some variation in the length of the strings (longest being in the very middle and shorter to the edges) and the amounts of beads.

i then tied 3 equal length strings of mono-filament on 6 different areas so the middle of all strings would meet and form a place that i could attach a hanger from.

(the finished product pictures were taken in my bathroom while was hanging from my shower curtain rod, but who cares) it now hangs in my office and definitely offers the "girly" aspect my office was in desperate need of :)
